We often use Genesis Prose theme as a basis for further WordPress theme customisation. It gives you a good solid structure to work on, which we can then edit with custom CSS and images. The main benefit of Genesis framework is that code and design are separated into Parent and Child themes. So when WordPress gets updated with new functions, while some old functions stop working, StudioPress will update Genesis Parent theme accordingly. However your Child theme (Prose or others) will stay unchanged so that all your custom design is preserved.

As a result, your site will be easy to update and maintain, you’ll be able to take advantage of new features of WordPress, your theme will keep up with all new developments.

Here are some of the most commonly used Prose customisations that we use for our clients.

In order to install any of these code snippets, you need to go to Appearance -> Editor in your WordPress admin console. Select functions.php file from Prose theme to edit. Then paste the code you need at the end and save. Provided you have the editing ability of theme files through WordPress (sometimes you’ll have to use an FTP program, but more about this later!), you can easily implement any of these changes.
